About the role
You will own the technical infrastructure at ZeroPhase Dortmund. That means the self-hosted development environment, CI/CD pipelines, AI compute cluster, network and server security, cloud service administration, and remote endpoint management for the team. You are not a helpdesk. You are the person who builds and runs the foundation everything else sits on.
What you'll do
Infrastructure
- Deploy, maintain and secure ZeroPhase's self-hosted source code repository and version control infrastructure.
- Build and operate CI/CD pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment workflows for the engineering team.
- Set up, configure and maintain the on-site AI compute cluster: GPU servers, driver stack, job scheduling, and access management.
- Decide which AI workloads run on our local compute versus cloud AI services, and integrate the two where that is the better fit.
- Manage local network and server infrastructure: switches, firewalls, VPN, and physical server hardware.
Security
- Implement and maintain network and server security: intrusion detection, access control policies, patch management, and hardening.
- Ensure infrastructure meets the security standards expected of a defense technology company.
- Monitor systems for vulnerabilities and respond to incidents.
Cloud and endpoints
- Configure and maintain ZeroPhase's cloud software stack: user accounts, permissions, integrations, and service health.
- Manage and protect employee workstations remotely: endpoint management, patching, antivirus, and remote support when things break.
- Own onboarding and offboarding IT workflows: provisioning and decommissioning accounts and devices cleanly and securely.
What we're looking for
- 3 to 5 years of experience in an infrastructure, DevOps, or systems engineering role.
- Hands-on experience with self-hosted Git infrastructure: Gitea, GitLab self-hosted, or similar.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines: GitLab CI, Jenkins, Gitea Actions, or similar.
- Comfortable with Linux server administration. This is a Linux environment.
- Working knowledge of network security fundamentals: firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, intrusion detection.
- Experience with GPU server setup and administration is a strong plus given the AI compute cluster responsibility.
- Some exposure to cloud AI services (e.g. hosted inference or model APIs) is a plus, given the local/cloud AI routing responsibility.
- Remote endpoint management experience: patching, MDM, antivirus deployment.
- Security-minded by default. You do not need to be prompted to think about least privilege, hardening, or patch cadence.
- Fluent German; solid working English for coordination with Munich.
Bonus: not required
- Experience in a defense, hardware, or regulated tech environment.
- Familiarity with container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, or similar.
- Relevant certifications: Linux Foundation, CompTIA Security+, or similar.
- Experience administering GPU compute environments for AI or ML workloads.
